Dell’s Adamo 13 ultraportable slips to $899, gets a spec bump

December 28th, 2010 No comments

It’s been awhile since we’ve heard any news from the Adamo  camp, but for those looking to blow a bit of that Santa cash on something thin and light, the timing here couldn’t possibly be better.

Nearly 1.5 years after the 13-inch ultraportable was let loose — for $1,999 and up, no less — a new low-cost configuration has emerged at Dell’s website. These days, $899 gets you a 0.65-inch thick machine, complete with a 13.4-inch WLED display (1366 x 768 resolution), 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo SL9600 processor, a 64-bit copy of Windows 7 Home Premium and 4GB of DDR3-800 memory. You’ll also get a 128GB SSD, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and a 40 WHr Lithium Polymer battery, and if you’re down for spending a bit more, you can grab an internal mobile broadband module as well. Or, you know, you could wait and see what kind of treasures CES brings. Your call.

Alienware M17x Apparently Suffering With GPU Power Problems

December 20th, 2010 No comments

Unfortunately for some Alienware M17x owners problems still exist within their systems, reported problems suggest a power-related graphics problems, even after Alienware has now finally stated they have fixed the apparent DPC latency issues with the laptop.

Apparently the symptoms are similar to that of the DPC latency issue, which is causing a few problems with diagnosis. However the new problem seems to be effecting the highest specification systems with the GPU taking more power than is available.

Dell has now apparently fixed the issue on its most recent Alienware M17x laptops but is still unwilling it seems, to provide replacement systems to the early adopters experiencing the problems, according to the Notebook Review forums. It also currently looks like a swap-out to replace the laptop is currently the only surefire way to correct the issue.

Shenzhen Gets Its Own Dell Duo, Sony Vaio P Inspired 9 Inch Netvertible

December 6th, 2010 No comments

Inspired by Dell’s Inspiron Duo with that unique hinge is this unnamed 9-inch netvertible straight out of Shenzhen in China. Your first impression probably wasn’t the screen hinge though, and probably the keyboard design, which looks a lot like the Sony Vaio P.

I guess you could say this is sort of like a Sony Vaio P with a touchscreen, except not getting anywhere close in regards to thinness and weight. When rolled over into tablet mode, there are a series of buttons accessible on the bezel.

Nice design overall but the specs don’t match Dell’s offering. Here, we’ve got an Intel Atom N450 processor, integrated graphics, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 120GB HDD, 8.9″ 1024 x 600 display with capacitive touch, webcam, Windows 7 and a 7.4V, 3000 mAh battery and ports – 2 x USB 2.0, audio jacks, VGA, RJ45 and SD card reader. It’ll be available in four colors.

No word on how much this costs or when it’s coming out over there in China.

Dell Vostro V130 updated with more ports, fancy Hyperbaric cooling

November 30th, 2010 No comments

Back when we reviewed the Dell Vostro V13  we had a few complaints, including the fact that it lasted less than three hours on a charge and lacked an HDMI port.

Well, Dell’s gone and taken care of at least one of those issues with its new Vostro V130. The original thin and light chassis has been kept in tact, which means there’s still the same old battery issues, but Dell’s freshened up the 13.3-inch magnesium alloy laptop with an HDMI port, extra USB socket, a SIM card slot, new Core i3 / i5 ULV processor options, and some new Intel “Hyperbaric Cooling” technology. We don’t know much about that new cooling stuff, but apparently it will help the .65-inch thick system stay cool and quiet. Oh, and did we mention it now comes in that bright red hue?! The small business machine still starts an impressive $429 and is available today.
