Lenovo Announces ThinkPad L Series, Business Notebooks Focused on Being and Saving Green

Lenovo thinkpad-l-seriesToday, Lenovo announced a new Enterprise-friendly line of ThinkPads, called the ThinkPad L Series. Combining a similar chassis design to the small business-oriented ThinkPad SL Series with features found in the ThinkPad R series like docking, the 14 and15-inch L series notebooks offers Core i3 and Core i5 processing power at prices any business can appreciate.

Lenovo has timed the announcement of the L Series to coincide with Earth Day, because the new notebooks are the greenest Thinkpads ever with up to 30 percent of psot consumer recycled material used in the chassis, and with power-saving features like a 100-percent backlit LED screen. However, most businesses will probably focus on the green they can save with the low $649 starting price.

In the ThinkPad family, the L series will eventually replace the small business oriented SL series and budget-minded R series. Though both the SL and R series models remain on sale, neither will be upgraded to Intel’s latest Core i3 / i5 / i7 CPUs.

Specs for the ThinkPad L Series include:

  • 14 or 15-inch Screens at 1366 x 768 Resolution
  • 6 CPU choices, ranging from a 1.86-GHz Celeron P4500 to a 2.13-GHz Core i3-330M to a 2.53-GHz Intel Core i5-540M
  • Windows 7 ($59.94) Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate
  • Integrated Intel graphics or discrete ATI Radeon HD 5145 graphics
  • Starting weight of 5.2 pounds / 5.7 pounds (14 / 15-inch models)
