Acer has announced the US availability of the Aspire TimelineX thin-and-light laptop series, including the 11.6-inch Aspire 1830T, 13.3″ 3820T, 14″ 4820T and the 15.6″ 5820T.
Besides LED-backlit displays, TimelineX notebooks include the Intel Core i3 or Core i5 full-voltage processors, except the 1830T with a Core i3 ultra-low voltage chip. The laptops have Intel’s integrated GPU or swithcable graphics with an ATI Radeon dedicated video card, 3GB or 4GB of memory, up to 500GB hard drive space, optical drives in 14″ and 15.6″ models, and Windows 7 Home Premium OS.
The TimelineX systems are less than one inch thin and are housed in black brushed aluminium cases. The laptops’ weight ranges from 3 to 5.5 pounds.
According to Acer, the new notebooks are desinged to deliver “eight hours of battery life”.
Prices of the Acer Aspire 1830T and 3820T start at $599.99 and $729.99, respectively, whereas the 4820T and 5820T both start at $749.99.
Acer first released the Timeline series last year to critical and commercial acclaim. Yet while the laptops boasted excellent usability and portability courtesy of very impressive battery lives, performance was slightly lacking. The new TimelineX range rectifies this utterly, and the Aspire 4820T is a laptop which – despite a few usability issues – simply has it all.
The Acer Aspire 4820T features the very latest in cutting edge technology, and the Intel Core i5 processor is joined by 4096MB of DDR3 memory. Performance is fantastic, and you’ll be able to run – even concurrently – resource intensive applications and programs.
Graphical capability is also extremely impressive, and the ATi Mobility Radeon HD 5650 combined with 1024MB of dedicated memory achieved benchmarking scores we’d expect from powerful gaming machines. This offers you massive flexibility when it comes to work and play, and you’ll have no problems playing the latest games or editing HD movies.
The power on offer is all the more remarkable considering the size of the Acer Aspire 4820T. At only 31mm thick it’s easy to slip into a bag, and the machine weighs 2.1kg – meaning it only narrowly misses out on ultraportable status.
Despite the powerful components mentioned above Acer claims a minimum of eight hours from the battery which, if true, is excellent.
To achieve this Acer has employed many resource light components when building the Aspire 4820T, to ease the burden on the laptop’s battery. These include LED backlighting for the screen, a low powered hard drive – which Acer claims uses 40% less power than standard drives – and also low energy fans to keep the laptop cool. Intel’s Core i5 processor is also capable of optimising its performance so that it powers down automatically when its full muscle isn’t required. There’s also an integrated Intel GPU, alongside the dedicated ATi chip, which you can switch to when you’re after an extended battery life.
