Acer Aspire One D257 now with HAPPY colors

April 26th, 2011 Tanya No comments

Remember the Acer Aspire One D257 back at MWC in February?

Probably not as there’s nothing much new with it. It has an almost identical same chassis to many of their netbooks that we’ve seen for years, with the new aspect being the splash design on the lid, with either a dual core Atom N550 / N570 processor with standard integrated graphics and the usual netbook specs.

That said, this news is even less exciting unless you have a color fetish – new AOHAPPY like color additions for the D257 – Blueberry Shake, Banana Cream, Papaya Milk and Strawberry Yogurt. I don’t think this D257 has been released yet, if it hasn’t already been in a few parts in Europe.

Acer Aspire One AOD255E now available (with an Atom N570 dual core chip)

March 3rd, 2011 Tanya No comments

Sure, Intel highlighted upcoming computers from Asus, Lenovo, and Samsung in its press release announcing the launch of the Atom N570 processor today… but Acer has beat those companies to the punch.

The Acer Aspire One AOD255E is a 10 inch netbook with a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N570 processor, and it’s available from Amazon for $330.

The Acer aspire One AOD255E has a 250GB hard drive, 3 USB ports, Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display. It runs Windows 7 Starter Edition and weighs about 2.76 pounds. The new processor is the most remarkable thing about the laptop… and the reasonably low price, but that’s pretty much par for the course from Acer netbooks these days.

Acer launches WiMAX netbook… in Japan

November 2nd, 2010 Tanya No comments

Acer has introduced three updated laptop models  in Japan with built-in support for 4G WiMAX mobile broadband. That includes versions of thr 13.3 inch Acer Aspire AS3820, the 11.6 inch Aspire AS1830, and the 10.1 inch Acer Aspire ONe AOD255.

As far as I can tell, that makes the Acer Aspire One AOD-255-A01B the first netbook from the company to include WiMAX… although you can clearly add WiMAX to any notebook by using a USB dongle or a mobile hotspot from your WiMAX provider. Personally I don’t really see the point of purchasing a laptop with built-in 3G or 4G unless you know you’re going to be using the same computer for the length of the contract, and that you don’t plan to switch carriers.

Anyway, the netbook has a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, 1GB of RAM and a 250GB hard drive. It has 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, a 6 cell battery, and runs Windows 7 Starter Edition. While some versions of the Aspire One AOD255 come with a dual core Atom N550 processor, this version has a single core 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 CPU.

There’s no word on whether this model will eventually be sold in the US or other countries.

Acer Aspire One Happy to ship with Android in Europe

October 14th, 2010 Tanya No comments

The Acer Aspire One Happy has been making the rounds in Europe for a little while, showing up at Spanish and Hungarian retail sites last month. Now the mini-laptop is also heading to the UK, where it will sell for about £250, or just under $400 US.

What’s more, the UK version will apparently dual boot Windows 7 and Google Android 2.1. It’s not clear whether the version of the Aspire One Happy on sale in other countries will also feature the dual booting operating systems, although word on the street is that Acer plans to offer Android on all of its upcoming notebooks that have dual core processors. The Aspire One Happy will be available with either a single core Atom N450 processor or a dual core Atom N550 chip.

The netbook features a 10.1 inch display, WiFi, Bluetooth, and optional 3G. The Acer Aspire One Happy supports up to 2GB of memory and will be available with up to 250GB of hard drive space. The computer will be available with pink, purple, lime green, or light blue lids. Aside from the Android option, the colorful lids are probably the most distinctive feature on this laptop.

Notebook Italia reports  that the Happy will be available in Italy in November with a starting price of 349 Euros. Like the UK model, the version shipping in Italy will run both Windows 7 Starter and Google Android.

Laser One notebook Aspires to be the best Acer clone it can be

October 6th, 2010 Tanya No comments

You’d be forgiven if you took one look at the new Laser One Chinese laptop and thought it was yet another variation of Acer’s Aspire One 10 inch netbook series. I’m pretty sure that’s what the manufacturer wants you to think after all. But als, it’s just another cheap knockoff.

Shanzhaiben reports that the Laser One is also both cheaper and larger than your typical Acer netbook, with a 12.1 inch display and $230 price tag. It also skips Acer’s typical keyboard design (with flat, wide keys) and instead uses a pretty traditional keyboard design complete with a row of Home, End, PgUp, and PgDn keys on the right side. I guess that’s the advantage of using a larger display than the notebooks you’re copying (although Acer doesn’t typically dedicate a full row to these keys even on its 11.6 inch laptops).

The rest of the specs are pretty typical, including a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, 1GB of memory, and a 160GB hard drive. The laptop has a 6 cell battery and comes in black, red, blue or white.
