Acer Aspire One Happy2 netbooks up for pre-order from $270

July 6th, 2011 No comments

Acer’s got a few nice yet-unseen netbooks coming out – the Cedar Trail Acer Aspire One D270 and the Ferrari One FO300 with one of AMD’s newer, upcoming Fusion chips. They’ve also got the Aspire One Happy2 netbooks which have just shown up on Amazon.com overnight. I’ll tell you right off the bat that these are still Pine Trail netbooks so nothing to get excited about. Basically just an update to Atom N570 and the ripple-lid design from the older “Happy” series.

Being in the “Happy” series there are a bunch of fruity colors. There’s a lower end model priced at $270 and a higher end model for $300 with the only difference being a 3-cell battery for the lower-end and a 6-cell battery for the higher end models.

Shared specs between them – a 10.1″ 1024 x 600 display, Intel Atom N570 processor, 1GB DDR3 RAM, 250GB HDD, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, SD card reader, 0.3MP webcam, 3x USB 2.0 and Windows 7 Starter. 8 hour, 4400mAh 6-cell battery or 3-cell 2200mAh battery. This is, of course, one of those netbook deals to make us – customers Happy, as the name says

Acer Cromia 761 Chrome OS laptop shows up on Amazon

June 6th, 2011 No comments
Acer is expected to begin selling its first Chromebook on June 15th, but you can check out the product page for one of the first laptops designed to run Google Chrome OS today. Amazon has posted a product page for the Acer Cromia AC761, confirming an earlier rumor about the laptop’s name.
The laptop features an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N570 dual core processor, GMA 3150 graphics, 2GB of DDR3 memory, and 16GB of storage. It has 2 USB ports, an HDMI output, a 1.3MP camera and 802.11b/g/n WiFi. There’s also a second listing for a model with 3G.
The laptops are expected to sell for $349 and up, but there are no prices listed at the moment.
The Acer Chromebook actually first showed up on Amazon nearly a month ago, but at the time it wasn’t called the Cromia AC761, it was just described as an Acer WiFi Chromebook.

Acer Chrome netbook to have Atom chip, HD display, HDMI output

April 28th, 2011 No comments

A couple of days before Google debuted Chrome OS, there was a screenshot leak of a keyboard that supposedly belonged to an Acer netbook with the yet to be released OS. The keyboard showed a layout different from the usual Windows setup and optimized for Chrome OS.

This was probably the cancelled ZGA  device mentioned back in December. However, Acer, along with Samsung did announce they’d be shipping Chrome OS netbooks when the OS is ready, so they’ve got something in the works and today Acer insider Macles has discovered what it is through bug reports.

He’s figured out that Acer’s upcoming Chrome OS netbook, is codenamed ZGB – the successor of the cancelled ZGA model, and that it’ll have a 1366 x 768 display, no size mentioned and HDMI output. It’ll have an Atom chip instead of AMD Fusion as one of parts is a video encoder chip, and AMD Fusion has that built-in already, not requiring an external part. That’s all for the time being. Chrome OS devices are expected to hit within the next 2 – 3 months but nobody’s offically announced anything yet.

Acer Aspire One D257 now with HAPPY colors

April 26th, 2011 No comments

Remember the Acer Aspire One D257 back at MWC in February?

Probably not as there’s nothing much new with it. It has an almost identical same chassis to many of their netbooks that we’ve seen for years, with the new aspect being the splash design on the lid, with either a dual core Atom N550 / N570 processor with standard integrated graphics and the usual netbook specs.

That said, this news is even less exciting unless you have a color fetish – new AOHAPPY like color additions for the D257 – Blueberry Shake, Banana Cream, Papaya Milk and Strawberry Yogurt. I don’t think this D257 has been released yet, if it hasn’t already been in a few parts in Europe.

Acer Aspire One 722 notebook to pack AMD C-50 chip

April 20th, 2011 No comments

Last year Acer introduced two mini-laptops with AMD processors, the Acer Aspire One 521 and Aspire One 721. The key difference was that the 721 had a larger 11.6 inch display while the 521 model featured 10.1 inch screen.

This year Acer updated the lineup with an Acer Aspire One 522 10 inch netbook featuring a new AMD C-50 processor. So it should come as no surprise that the company also plans to launch an Aspire One 722 with… you guessed it — a larger display and the same processor.

Macles reports that the Acer Aspire One 722 will have an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display and a 1 GHz AMD C-50 dual core processor with Radeon HD 6250 graphics. The laptop will have stereo speakers and a higher capacity battery than the Aspire One 522, but in most respects it’s just a larger version of the same laptop.

The lid has also been tweaked to include a water-drop design.

There’s no word on when the Aspire One 722 will ship or how much the laptop will cost.
