August 12th, 2010 Tanya No comments

When I initially did a hands on with the ASUS Eee 1015PN 10-inch netbook a couple of months ago at Computex 2010, I had confused it with the Eee PC 1015N. Both are identical and have next generation ION graphics with Nvidia Optimus however while the 1015N has a dual core Atom N550 processor while the 1015PN has a single core Atom processor. The dual core Atom N550, and the 1015N are both still a while away however the 1015PN is coming soon – it has been spotted up for pre-order in France with a price tag of 399 euros and a stocking period of within 30 days.

The ASUS Eee PC 1015PN has a 10.1″ 1024 x 600 display, Atom N475 processor, GMA 3150 graphics, next generation ION graphics (16-core, 512MB RAM), 1GB DDR3 RAM, 2.5″ 250GB HDD, 802.11b/g/n Wi-FI, 10/100 LAN, stereo speakers, mic, 0.3MP webcam, 6-cell battery (4,400 mAh or 5,200 mAh) and Windows 7 Starter + Express Gate OS.

For ports: 3x USB 2.0, audio jacks, VGA, HDMI and LAN. Weighs 1.38kg or 1.27kg.

The store listing and the fact that Blogeee has some official looking pictures means we should be seeing the Eee PC 1015PN very soon. No official word in other countries just yet.

ASUS Eee PC 900AX Doing it Old School

April 30th, 2010 Tanya No comments

ASUS Eee PC 900AXThe new / old 8.9-inch netbook today was short listed on the official ASUS website. Notebook Italia drafted the specifications, and images show that there are virtually no differences between the “new” ASUS Eee PC 900AX and the now no longer available for ASUS Eee PC 900A. The system relies in the same case and continues to have a Intel Atom N270 CPU. This device could be little more then an attempt by ASUS to get rid of remaining stock, but for those who crave the 9″ form factor, this is an interesting re-rerelease.

Asus Eee PC 1004DN finally launched

September 14th, 2009 GULLIVER No comments

It was almost as if Asus was hoping that world+dog was going to forget about its Eee PC 1004DN, but the company has now finally gone and launched the 1004DN, at least in Taiwan. To freshen up your memory if you’ve forgotten what’s so special about the 1004DN, it’s the first netbook with a built in optical drive and it’s also so far the only netbook to use the Intel GN40 chipset.

Other features include an Atom N280 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 120GB 1.8-inch hard drive that uses a ZIF interface, a finger print scanner for biometric securtiy, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR, a 1.3Megapixel webcam, an ExpressCard 34 slot, a multi-touch touchpad and three USB 2.0 ports. It also has a 10.2-inch display with 1,024×600 resoluton.

The supplied 6-cell battery is rated at 5.9h of usage and it makes the 1004DN quite heavy at 1.45kg. Pricing in Taiwan for the 1004DN is €429/$608, which makes it a fairly expensive netbook and we have a feeling that the 1.8-inch hard drive will hamper its performance. Besides, do you really use an optical drive these days?
