It’s been a long time since we’ve talked about the ASUS Eee PC T101MT Convertible netbook. It seems its back in vogue as it is among the first wave of netbooks to get the new Intel Atom N570 Dual Core CPU. Externally, the system remains the same but the new CPU is expected to provide a strong increase in performance.
The ASUS Eee PC T101MT was running the Intel Atom N450 at 1.66 GHz with integrated Intel GMA3150 graphics. The clock speed remains the same with the N570, but it does come with an extra core. We’re also going to be seeing the use of DDR3 memory which is another small performance increase.
The unit has 1 GB of RAM (expandable to 2GB) and a 320-gigabyte hard drive. We’ve also got WLAN, Bluetooth, three USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet and VGA connector and a 0.3-megapixel webcam. It is a kilogram in weight and a thickness of 31 millimeters. The ASUS Eee PC T101MT has a 4-cell battery, with the new CPU should probably allow for about 5 hours of running time. The display has a resolution of 1024 × 600 pixels, and the touch screen supports 256 pressure levels. As the MT is apart of the product name multi-touch support should be a given.
No word on pricing or availability.
The HP Mini 5103 (Intel Atom N550 dual-core) comes out to be a standout laptop with a premium design and a set of features that you will hardly find in other laptops.
The features that its preceding version Mini 5102 lacked, can be clearly found in this HP Mini 5103 (Intel Atom N550 dual-core).Though the appearance is more or less the same as its previous version, however, the features that have been included are completely novel and comes with a new configuration of Atom N550 and a high definition screen. With such features, the laptop comes out to be the same head-and-shoulders in the crowd.
The Gigabyte T1005M is a 10 inch mini-laptop with a touchscreen display that you can fold down over the keyboard or use in tablet mode. What sets it apart from earlier Gigabyte convertible netbooks, the T1005M has a dual core Intel Atom N550 processor and a capacitive touchscreen display. Earlier models has resistive displays and single core chips.
The new model also has a new chiclet-style keyboard, a USB 3.0 port, and a redesigned hinge with a sturdier build. It also has an eSATA port and a USB 2.0 port.
Nicole from Netbook News got a chance to check out the new Gigabyte T1005M in person and she seemed pretty impressed with most of the features, although the 6 cell. 7650mAh battery is rather large and unwieldy in the back, and the touchpad is awfully small and has buttons on the left and right side instead of in front of it.
We’ll have to wait a little longer for reviews to start popping up, but you can pre-order the Gigabyte T1005M from Amazon for $599.99.
It’s been up in UK stores up for preorder for quite a while now but it seems to have gone official now – I’m talking about the dual core Atom N550 version of the ASUS Eee PC 1018P netbook.
The 1018P is already old news and we’ve heard previously that it’ll get the upgrade to this dual core processor but nice to see it finally arrive officially. It is still one of the thinnest and lightest netbooks available today.
It’s expected to ship over there this week priced at 349 pounds, available in black or white. It’ll have the following specs – Intel Atom N550 processor, 1GB DDR3 RAM, 250GB HDD, 10.1″ 1024 x 600 display, 0.3MP webcam, 2x USB 3.0, USB 2.0, Gigabit LAN, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0+HS and Windows 7 Starter.
What goes better with a dual core processor than dual operating systems? Don’t see the connection? Yeah, me either. But DigiTimes is reporting that Acer plans to load both Windows 7 and Google Android on all future laptops with dual core chips.
This isn’t completely out of character for Acer. The company has already released a couple of netbook models running both Windows and Android, but they’ve been the exception and not the rule. But since Google doesn’t charge a licensing fee for Android it doesn’t cost much to throw Android on a separate partition and call it a valued added proposition.
I also suspect that DigiTimes may simply not have all the facts right. Most of Acer’s previous dual boot netbooks were only made available in a limited set of countries. It’s possible the new dual boot Windows and Android laptops could be limited editions which are only sold in certain parts of the globe.
Oh yeah, and no. I have no idea why Acer is reportedly tying the dual boot operating systems to machines with dual core processors. Single core chips handle dual boot systems just as well as multi-core chips, since you’re typically only actually running one operating system at a time. You simply choose which Acer laptop you want at startup.
Last month I got a chance to check out one of Samsung’s newest mini-laptops, the NF210. Aside from a few snazzy design choices which probably make the NF210 a love it or hate it machine, the Samsung NF210 doesn’t have much to set it apart from earlier Samsung netbooks. It has the same display, processor, and other specs as pretty much every Samsung netbook launched this year.
But it turns out the Samsung NF210 has a bigger brother. Today the company officially launched the Samsung NF310 in the US. While it has the same case design as the Samsung NF210, this $399 model has some premium specs, including:
- Dual core 1.5GHz Intel Atom N550 processor
- 10.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel HD display
The rest of the specs are pretty much par for the course:
- Windows 7 Starter Edition
- Intel integrated graphics
- 1GB DDR3 memory
- 250GB hard drive
- 802.11b/g/n WiFi
- 6 cell battery (Samsung promises 9 hours run time)
- 2 x 1.5W speakers
The Samsung NF310 weighs 2.87 pounds. The company says it should be available this fall in the US. The good news is that when I met with Samsung last month a rep told me this laptop would run $429. It looks like the company has decided to offer it at a lower price.
Unlike the Samsung NF210, which is exclusively available from Sam’s Club in the US, the NF310 should be generally available soon.
Sure, the dual core version of the Acer Aspire One AOD255 was briefly available from the Home Shopping Network in August, but now Acer has officially launched the netbook. It’s available for pre-order from Amazon, and Acer has put out a shiny new press release listing the netbook’s specs.
The Aspire One AOD255 is available with either a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 single core processor or a 1.5GHz dual core Atom N550 chip.
The laptop weighs about 2.5 pounds and measures about 1 inch thick. It has 802.11b/g/n WiFi, a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, 1.3MP camera, 1GB of DDR3 memory and a 250GB hard drive. The Aspire One AOD255 comes with Windows 7 Starter Edition and Microsoft Office Starter 2010. The laptop is available in red, black, brown and aquamarine.
The Aspire One AOD255 runs $329.99, making it one of the cheapest dual core netbooks available.
The Asus Eee PC 1015PN is a 10 inch netbook with a dual core Intel Atom N550 processor and second generation NVIDIA ION graphics. A few weeks ago Asus told me it would go on sale in October, and right on cue, the folks at ExcaliberPC have put up product pages for the laptop. You can pre-order the Eee PC 1015PN for $429 in black, white, blue, or red colors.
Asus has also listed the complete specs for the netbook, including:
- 1.5GHz Intel Atom N550 dual core CPU
- NVIDIA ION N11M-PT1 graphics with 512MB RAM
- 1GB DDR3 RAM
- 250GB hard drive
- 802.11b/g/n WiFi
- Bluetooth 3.0
- VGA, HDMI, 3 USB ports, mic and headphone jacks, and an SDHC card reader
- 0.3MP camera
- 6 cell Li-ion battery (48Whr or 56Whr)
- Windows 7 Starter or Windows 7 Home Premium
- 10.3″ x 7″ x 1.4″
- 2.75 pounds
The model available for pre-order from ExcaliberPC comes with Windows 7 Starter. Interestingly, the retailer says the laptop also has a 1366 x 768 pixel HD display, which is in keeping with what Asus told me last month. But the Asus product page says the Eee PC 1015PN has a 1024 x 600 pixel screen.

MSI launched the Wind U160 netbook along with a few other 10 inch models earlier this year.
At the time they were shipping with the same boring 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processors found in most other netbooks of the day, but Netbook News reports that MSI will soon introduce a new version of the U160 with a shiny new Intel Atom N550 dual core chip.
The overall design o the netbook hasn’t changed. It still has an island-style keyboard, a touchpad with a bumpy texture, and a 6 cell battery that sticks out from the back and bottom of the laptop.

HP launched an updated version of its Mini 210 netbook recently, and I got my first chance to check out the new kids in person the other night. While the biggest change is the option to configure the netbook with either a single core or dual core Atom processor, HP has also tweaked the design a bit.
The new netbooks are available in black, blue, red, pink, and purple, and each lid has a matte finish. The keyboard and touchpad haven’t changed all that much, but HP has redesigned the base of the laptop so that a 6 cell battery sits flush with the back and bottom. In fact, the new HP Mini 210 ships standard with a high capacity 6 cell battery. There’s no longer a 3 cell option.
The HP Mini 210 starts at $329.99, but that price will only get you a black netbook with 1GB of RAM, an Atom N455 processor and Windows 7 Starter. If you’re willing to pay extra, you can get a different color, a faster processor, more memory, a Broadcom Crystal HD video accelerator, and even step up to Windows 7 Home Premium. You can also add a 1366 x 768 pixel HD display.
Overall, it looks like the HP Mini 210 may offer more configuration options than any other consumer-oriented netbook on the market today. On the other hand, you can easily get carried away with the options. A truly souped up version of this netbook could easily run you $500 or more.
