Gateway Announces Fashionable Metal-Clad ID Notebooks With Glowing Blue Touchpads
Sure, there’s more to a gadget’s value equation than style, but it’s hard not to notice how futuristically beautiful Gateway’s new ID series laptops are. The notebooks, available with 14- and 15.6-inch screens (they’re the ID49 and ID59, respectively), have silver lids and chassis, with trackpads that glow blue when you touch them (it supports multitouch gestures, by the by). Because hefty notebooks are a buzzkill, these measure a slim inch thick.
We actually first laid eyes on these notebooks earlier this month at the Computex show in Taipei, where Acer had a number of gorgeous looking Gateway systems on display. The picture at the top of this post comes straight from the show floor.
But what about the specs, you say? These notebooks come with 4GB of RAM and have 1366 x 768 screens, and can be configured with Core i3 or Core i5 processors. Higher-end configurations may have Nvidia’s Optimus technology, which automatically switches between powerful discrete graphics and power-saving integrated ones depending on what you’re doing with your laptop. The speakers promise better-than-average sound quality, thanks to Dolby Home Theater v3 audio technology. Other specs you should come to expect in a laptop include wireless-N Wi-Fi and a 1.3-MP webcam.
The 14-inch ID49 starts at $679 and the 15.6-inch ID59 starts at $799.
