Lenovo’s metallic IdeaPad Z570 finally goes on sale, starts at $699

April 15th, 2011 No comments

Of the nearly 20 consumer laptops Lenovo unleashed  upon the world at CES, the IdeaPad Z570 was billed as the multimedia notebook with the least flashy design. (Okay, we’re paraphrasing a little.)

Curiously, the company didn’t say at the time how much its metallic wonder would cost nor when it would be available. Three months later we’re finally getting our answer: it’s on sale now starting at $699, already taking a gentle tumble from $999. To refresh your saturated noggins, the 15.6-inch Z570 moves to a chiclet keyboard, as many other Lenovo laptops have, and packs a Core i3-2310M processor, 4GB of RAM, and 500GB 5,400RPM hard drive at its lowest price point. Those willing to spend more can step up to a $999 version that includes a Core i5-2520M CPU and 6GB of RAM. Either way, they come with DVD burners and relatively low-res 1366 x 768 screens, and the graphics top out with Intel’s integrated HD 3000 chipset. That’s all fine for everyday use, but deserving of that “multimedia machine” moniker? We’ll leave that to you and your wallet.

Lenovo launches IdeaPad S10-3s netbook

April 7th, 2010 No comments

lenovo-ideapad-s10-3s-1Lenovo is introducing a new netbook that looks an awful lot like it’s last netbook — the IdeaPad S10-3. The new Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3s has a similar chiclet-style keyboard and touchpad with integrated left and right buttons. And the basic specs are the same, with an Intel Atom Pine Trail CPU, a 10.1 inch display, and 802.11b/g/n WiFi. The starting price of $379.99 is also pretty familiar.

But there are a few differences. The most noticeable is that the IdeaPad S10-3s features a slightly modified case design with rounded corners, making it look more like the older IdeaPad S10-2 than the S10-3.  But more significantly, the new model is available with a bunch of configuration options that aren’t available on the S10-3, including:

  • CPU: Intel Atom N450 or N470
  • Display: 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel or 1280 x 720 pixel
  • Memory: Up to 2GB
  • OS: Windows 7 Starter, Windows XP
  • Storage: 160GB, 250GB, 320GB hard drive, or 16GB, 32GB solid state disk
  • Connectivity: Optional Bluetooth, 3G modem
  • Battery: 3 cell or 7 cell

The new netbook will also come with a new suite of software including DirectShare for syncing your files with another PC and Maplife for detecting your location over a WiFi connection. Lenovo also plans to offer the netbook in black and white, and with a new “spring flowers” case design. Only the white model will be available in the US at launch.

The Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3s measures 10.6″ x 6.6″ x 0.9″ and weighs 2.43 pounds with a 3 cell battery or 2.76 pounds with a 6 cell battery.
