ASUS held a press conference announcing numerous upcoming devices in Taiwan. With all these releases, the most interesting notebook revealed at the press conference is the ASUS U36JC. Though it has a 13.3-inch display, there’s some serious power behind this compact notebook.

The ASUS U36JC  sports a 13.3-inch screen with a typical notebook resolution of 1366 x 768. Netbook news labels the display as “tragically glossy”, which is noticeable in photos of the notebook. Powered by Intel’s Core i5 processor, the U36JC gets serious about graphics with Nvidia’s GeForce 310M with 1GB of DDR3 RAM.

Did we mention it has 4GB  of DDR3 RAM and a 500GB 7200RPM hard drive. Weighing in at about 3.65lbs, the ASUS U36JC is a great combination of power and portability for travelers.

A 4-in-1 card reader, VGA, HDMI, 2 USB 2.0 ports and a USB 3.0 port align the sides of the ASUS U36JC. 6-cell and 8-cell batteries will power the notebook, though there’s no official word on projected battery life. A webcam is also integrated into the notebook in order to use Skype on the go.

All in all, the ASUS U36JC is shaping up to be one powerfully ultraportable. Expect it to run you a cool $1100, a bit high compared to other 13-inch notebooks on the market. This isn’t in the US market yet, but if you can’t wait to get your hands on the U36JC pre-orders are being taken in Taiwan right now.
